In addition to the pandemic, economic distress, and discord on equity, unprecedented environmental disasters including wildfires and record storms have made a lasting mark on 2020. Communities are facing a new reality created by climate change as experts predict natural disasters will become more severe and more frequent. Louisiana experienced this in real time as an historic five named storms—including three hurricanes—made landfall this fall. This session will look at the increasing severity and frequency of disasters, their impact on distressed communities and what we can expect beyond 2020.
