Joyce Msuya is a leader in humanitarian relief and international development. Since February 2022, she has served as Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, playing a pivotal role in mobilizing resources and building partnerships to address global crises. With over 25 years of experience, she has shaped OCHA’s strategy and operations across key areas, including finance, inclusivity, efficiency, and public-private alliances.
Msuya led the UN's emergency response to urgent crises from July-November 2024 as the Acting Under-Secretary-General, an interim position. Previously, she was the Deputy Executive Director of UNEP in Kenya, where she also served as the Interim Executive Director. She has held senior roles at the World Bank Group in China, the Republic of Korea, and the USA.
