We are changing the way the world treats women.
About us
WE ARE CHANGING THE WAY THE WORLD TREATS WOMEN. Women are different, right from the beginning. But until 1992, when we were founded, there wasn’t even a research institute dedicated to women’s issues. Today, Magee-Womens Research Institute is solving real world problems and impacting lives—in the fields of cancer, heart disease, fertility, HIV, Alzheimer’s and more. But the potential is boundless. Anything is possible when the country’s largest women’s research institute partners with a world-class women’s hospital.

Did you know it's National Women's Health Week? Don't let this week pass you by without making a difference! How? 👉 Join our #Magee100KChallenge and help us raise $100,000 for women's health research! Every dollar we raise goes towards our lifesaving research goals, which include reducing maternal and infant mortality in the U.S. and abroad, stopping the spread of HIV (the largest killer of girls and women aged 15 to 24), and slowing and eventually ending cancer metastasis by curing breast and ovarian cancer. Decades of excluding women from medical research has had profound effects on women’s health. Dr. Jocelyn Fitzgerald, Magee-Womens investigator and urogynecologist at UPMC Magee-Womens Hosoital, is working to help close the gender gap in medicine. “The beauty of Magee is that there were some really forward-thinking people in the early ’90s who questioned, how can we protect our patient population and what can we do to advance the research? And that’s why they founded the Magee-Womens Research Institute,” Fitzgerald explained. See how Dr. Fitzgerald along with fellow women's health champions at Magee-Womens are changing the status quo, and with it the landscape of health care: https://bit.ly/3UO1xfm
