Michael Donovan, Ph.D., currently serves as the Director of Resilience and Disaster Response at the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Currently he manages outreach, advocacy, and training initiatives that empower architects to design buildings and landscapes capable of withstanding extreme weather and disasters. He has held positions in the U.S. Government and public international organizations, bridging high-level housing and urban policy with field-level implementation of sustainability programs. Donovan began his career as an urban economist for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) where he conducted climate analysis for senior officials and mayors in over 30 countries. Donovan is the recipient of numerous public service awards and holds Ph.D., masters, and bachelor’s degrees from UC Berkeley, M.I.T., and Notre Dame, respectively. His public service and research on urban resilience have been supported by the American Planning Association, the Fulbright scholarship program, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the National Science Foundation.
