Fellow, McKinsey Global Institute; Author of the Power of Parity: How Advancing Women's Equality Can Add $12 Trillion to the Global Economy
Mekala Krishnan is a McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) Fellow in the Washington, DC office of McKinsey & Company.
She has co-led a number of research efforts, including on global gender equality, investment trends in financial and non-financial assets, and has participated in research on inclusive growth in India.
Some of her work includes:
- Co-leading MGI’s research The Power of Parity: How advancing women’s equality can add $12 trillion to global growth. She has presented this research in public forums, as well as led discussions with business leaders and social sector stakeholders. She is currently co-leading MGI’s new research on gender equality in the United States.
- Also currently co-leading MGI’s research on future investment trends in financial and non-financial assets, based on an understanding of the global macro-economic environment and corporate performance.
- Supporting research efforts on gender equality and inclusive growth in India, including evaluating differences in equality by state and identifying enablers to increase the economic participation of women
Her previous work at McKinsey includes strategy and operations projects, primarily with private sector clients in the engineering and technology sectors. She has also worked with a public sector client in disaster relief efforts, including establishing an organization to manage disaster recovery, and creating performance management systems.
Prior to McKinsey, Mekala received her Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 2011, where she conducted interdisciplinary numerical and experimental studies of microscale fluid mechanics and fusing optics with microfluidics. Before that, she received a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2006 from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
