                                                    As Executive Vice President of Social Impact at Discovery Education, Amy Nakamoto spearheads strategies that bridge K-12 education and industry together, forging connections with corporate and community partners to infuse real-world content into school curricula. Discovery Education’s Social Impact team works to nurture curiosity for every student, teacher, and classroom through cutting-edge technology solutions and immersive, hands-on experiences around critical issue topics such as workforce readiness, STEM, environmental education, financial literacy, health and wellness, and more.
Drawing on her experience at the nexus of education, nonprofit, corporate, and government sectors, Amy has consistently championed initiatives that foster the positive development of students and young people. Prior to her role at Discovery Education, she held leadership positions in youth-focused nonprofits, directing grantmaking efforts in the private foundation realm. Since joining Discovery Education in 2017, Amy has been instrumental in amplifying the importance of multi-sector partnership development within the K-12 landscape, driving initiatives that prepare students for the demands of the modern workforce.
Amy holds a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University, along with master’s degrees in sport science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and education from the University of Pennsylvania. She resides outside of Washington, DC with her husband, four children, and two dogs.
