John C. Thomas is the program coordinator for the Travelers EDGE program at Capital Community College and Capital’s Career Advancement Program (CCAP). CCAP is a founding partner of the Travelers EDGE program, preparing Hartford-area students for associates degree completion, career readiness focused on insurance and financial services, transfer to 4-year universities, and—ultimately—gainful employment.

John has led programs as varied as early childhood education, youth development, national service, and animal welfare organizations. He is an experienced career development trainer having conducted training for AmeriCorps programs in Connecticut and New York.

Motivated by his own history, John is committed to inspiring and motivating students through his own experiences. He shares his journey as a Hartford native, a teen parent, and earning his bachelor’s degree later in life to help students understand that personal success can be achieved through working hard, building relationships, and seizing opportunities.

John holds Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management and is working on his Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Development. He is active in his community, currently serving on the Insurance & Finance Industry advisory board at Weaver High School and presiding over the Charter Oak State College Student Alumni Board. In his spare time, John can be found working on his golf swing, attending live music events, and hanging out with his grandchildren.
