Tim Brooks is Vice President of Environmental Responsibility and the Sustainable Materials Center at the LEGO Group. Based in Billund, Denmark, he heads a global team responsible for the company’s global environmental responsibility strategy, performance and impact of the LEGO Group’s products.
Prior to joining the LEGO Group, Tim worked for Tesco developing new environmental technologies, processes and systems. He has more than 20 years of experience in sustainability with a focus on corporate sustainability strategy with particular knowledge of renewable energy technologies, sustainable buildings and product manufacturing.
Tim started his career in sustainable mechanical & electrical engineering with the Building Research Establishment and has worked for engineering consultancies, FTSE 100 companies, the Carbon Trust, and as an environmental policy advisor to the Mayor of London. He is a trustee of a number of environmental charities and was voted by Fast Company as 15th in the 100 most creative people of 2019.
Recent projects undertaken by the LEGO Group include:
- The investment in two offshore wind farms, through KIRKBI A/S, to reach the LEGO Group’s goal to balance our global energy consumption with renewable energy capacity by 2020 and beyond.
- The establishment of a Sustainable Materials Centre dedicated to implementing sustainable materials in our products by 2030 and packaging by 2025.
- The first launch of bio-based LEGO elements ‘Plants from Plants’ made from sugarcane
- The launch of LEGO REPLAY which collects used LEGO Bricks and facilitates their sustainable reuse by donating them to charity.
