Kathryn S. Basha, Planning Director at the Berkeley Charleston Dorchester Council of Governments, has several decades of experience working with non-profits, communities, counties and regional agencies on planning and land development, revitalization, comprehensive and transportation projects. She leads a team at the BCDCOG that facilitates development of comprehensive plans that focus on fostering sustainable communities through revitalization, economic development and smart land use planning that minimize demand and impacts on infrastructure, while protecting the natural environment. The agency also has oversight of the region’s transportation planning, economic and community development projects, and local planning technical assistance. She was project manager for development of the Regional Blueprint initiative – Our Region Our Plan-, the Partnership for Prosperity Master Plan for the Neck Area, and I-26ALT which identified the Lowcountry Rapid Transit (BRT) as the preferred alternative for the region’s first fixed-guideway transit system. She holds a BA in History and Historic Preservation from Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Virginia and has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) since 1993.
