Regardt “Reggie” Ferreira, Ph.D., is the Director of Tulane University’s Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy, Executive Director of the Consortium for Equitable Disaster Resilience, and Associate Professor (tenured) of Social Work at Tulane University in New Orleans. He joined the Tulane University faculty in 2013, where he divides his time among administration, applied and community-based research and engagement, program development, and teaching activities. He primarily conducts research in Europe, Africa, North America, the Caribbean, and South Asia, focusing on the intersection of disaster, resilience, and behavioral health. Over the past two decades, he has been involved in several efforts focused on disaster risk reduction and fostering resilience, with projects totaling over $44 million in federal and foundation funding. His interdisciplinary work includes over 100 published journal articles, chapters, and scientific abstracts. Several top teaching awards have recognized Reggie’s work in the classroom. His work has most recently been featured in popular media outlets such as CNN, Rolling Stone, Voice of America, HBO/VICE, The Atlantic, Fox, Fox News, NBC, NBC News, CBS, ABC, Reuters, Medscape, NPR, Futurity, ScienceDaily, USA Today, Inside Climate News, and Psychology Today. Reggie loves the outdoors and rugby, and is originally from Bloemfontein, South Africa.
