Madge Thomas is the Head of Corporate Sustainability at American Express, where she helps set and execute the vision for global community impact and service, as well as overseeing AMEX’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy. Thomas is also President of the American Express Foundation, where she oversees philanthropic giving, partnerships and flagship programs.
Before American Express, Thomas was the Head of Innovative Finance, Corporate and Philanthropic partnerships at UNICEF’s Education Cannot Wait Fund, partnering with companies and governments investing in learning access, innovation, and equity. Prior to the UN, Thomas was Vice President of Global Policy & Advocacy at Global Citizen and developed strategies in CSR, policy, advocacy, impact and reporting aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Thomas’ efforts mobilized top celebrities, world leaders and millions of consumers to help secure $10B+ and high-level policy commitments on financial inclusion, education, equality, climate action and waste reduction. Thomas started her career in Australia as a lawyer and diplomat, specializing in regulatory matters, human rights and social justice with a focus on indigenous and underserved communities.
Thomas is a Board member of the Center for Victims of Torture and the Impact through Golf Foundation and a Corporate Advisory Committee member for Save the Children.
